MenuRank AI ("MenuRank AI," "we," "us") is operated by Simerge LLC. It is a mobile app that scans restaurant menus and ranks dishes around your preferences. We built it to need as little personal information as possible. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.
1. No account, anonymous identity
MenuRankAI does not require you to create an account or provide your name, email, or phone number to use it. To enforce free-trial limits and manage subscriptions, the app generates a random, anonymous device identifier stored securely on your device. It is not linked to your real-world identity.
2. Information processed when you scan
- Menu images you choose to scan are uploaded to the MenuRankAI backend, which sends them to OpenAI for AI analysis and ranking. Based on the current backend code, MenuRankAI does not intentionally store your menu photos in its own database or storage. Once sent to OpenAI, the images are also subject to OpenAI's data-handling practices.
- Your preferences (dietary needs, allergies, health goals, budget, meal type, and similar settings) are stored on your device and sent with each scan so results are personalized. We do not need your identity to apply them.
- For QR or web menus, the app opens the menu in an in-app browser on your device. The web address, page content, cookies, and browsing history are not sent to our servers — only the menu images you capture are.
3. Usage, security, and subscription data
- Scan counts and quota status tied to your anonymous device identifier are stored by our backend to enforce free-trial and subscription limits.
- Hashed IP addresses. To prevent abuse and protect the service, the backend may process and store a hashed (SHA-256) version of your IP address for abuse prevention, security, quota enforcement, and rate limiting. We do not store your IP address in plain text.
- Where this is stored. Your anonymous device ID, subscription/quota status, scan counts, and hashed IP / rate-limit records may be stored in our database provider, Supabase.
- Subscriptions are processed by Apple. We use a subscription-management provider (RevenueCat) to confirm whether a subscription is active. We do not receive or store your payment-card details — Apple handles billing.
4. Service providers
We share the minimum necessary data with providers that operate the service on our behalf: OpenAI (to analyze menu images), Supabase (database for scan limits, quota, and hashed rate-limit records), Vercel (backend hosting), Apple (in-app subscriptions and billing), and RevenueCat (to confirm subscription status). We do not sell your personal information.
5. Data retention and deletion
Your preferences live on your device until you change them or delete the app. Server-side records tied to your anonymous identifier — such as scan counts and hashed rate-limit data — are kept to operate trial, quota, and abuse-prevention limits. The service does not currently have an automated mechanism to delete these server-side records. To request deletion of the records associated with your anonymous identifier, contact us at menurankai.app@gmail.com (see Help & Support), and we will act on reasonable requests.
6. Your choices
- You can change or clear your preferences in the app at any time.
- Deleting the app removes on-device data, including your local preferences. Note that deleting the app does not, by itself, remove the server-side records tied to your anonymous identifier.
- To request deletion of server-side records, contact us at menurankai.app@gmail.com (see Help & Support).
- Manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple ID settings.
7. Children
MenuRankAI is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a revised effective date.
